Dance courses & classes
We offer Divas Dance classes at five different levels, in addition to a SHOWDANCE class for our more experienced dancers:
We recommend that all budding Dancing Divas start here unless you have had some dancing experience. The beginners’ courses are designed specifically to introduce you to dancing with Dancing Divas. The pace is slower, and we introduce simple dance routines in a variety of styles to get you familiar with basic dance steps, while increasing your flexibility, coordination and fitness. We use mostly our own dance choreographies based on ballroom, Latin American, jazz fusion, line dance and other dance styles. Course length: five or six weeks, repeated throughout the year. Some of our DDs prefer to repeat a beginners course, but generally you will be ready to move onto an in-betweeners course, which prepares you for our Level 1 classes on completion of the course.
LEVEL 1: BEGINNERS ENTRY
This is the feeder level after completing our beginners’ courses. The pace is still fairly slow, with time to become familiar with basic dance steps and the introduction of new dance routines. Most DDs will spend about six months – one year at this this level, but this will depend on you and your capabilities.
By this stage you will be familiar with the basic dance steps and are comfortable with coordinating your movements, learning longer and more difficult dance routines, and using props such as hats, balls and scarves. The pace is faster, and it is expected that your fitness levels will have increased. You will be introduced to simple show choreographies for our end of year function.
The pace is much faster, the routines are more complex and longer, and more emphasis is placed on developing your technique. Expect to work on a number of special group choreographies in preparation for our Divas Showcase held at the end of the year. Suitable for those with previous dance experience or who have moved through Levels 1 and 2 of our classes.
This class is open to all L2/L3 Dancing Divas, or those with several years of previous dance experience. A class specially for those who would like to stretch themselves beyond what they think they can do and our regular class activities. We bring in guest dance instructors so that you will be exposed to different dance styles and ways of teaching. The class is specifically geared towards the needs of a more mature dancer who may not have the flexibility, strength (or memory!) of a younger dancer. The emphasis is on fun, fun, fun and moving out of your comfort zone.
